Can’t Spell Interoception without OT!
Our OPTC Occupational Therapy Interoception is a 22 week program which teaches a child strategies they can use at the right moment they need to use it because it works with body feeeeelings.
The program can be very helpful for increasing body sensations (hungry, thirsty, needing to use the restroom, awareness of body temperature) for a child. If a kiddo isn’t aware of the feeling of needing to go to the bathroom, this would be a great program for them!!
The program is best suited for children ages 5 and up, who may have sensory needs with or without deficits in fine motor skills. All of our amazing OTs are familiar with the program and able to implement techniques/training.
How Does It Work?
The program is broken up into different pieces to address the feelings and body sensations. The first few weeks involve exercises with the body, while the next set of lessons involves understanding the body’s emotions. For example: they may see a smiley face, but what does that mean? The program helps make that connection! The last section involves actions to make the body feel better and then they can connect it all together!
